# pump.fun coins: two holder-concentration false positives to avoid

If you score Solana tokens by "how much does the top wallet hold?", pump.fun coins will trip that check for reasons that have nothing to do with a rug. I hit both of these while fixing my own token check, so here they are with the on-chain details.

## 1. The bonding curve is the biggest holder until graduation

While a pump.fun coin is still on its bonding curve, the curve's own token account holds every token that hasn't been bought yet. On a fresh coin that is most of the supply. A naive top-holder check reads that as "one wallet holds 80%+, dangerous".

Fix: derive the bonding-curve PDA (seeds `"bonding-curve"` + mint, program `6EF8rrecthR5Dkzon8Nwu78hRvfCKubJ14M5uBEwF6P`), find its token account, and leave it out of the concentration math. Report it separately (for example as "percent still in the curve") so a buyer can see it.

## 2. Mayhem-mode coins park about half the supply in a protocol vault

Newer pump.fun curves carry extra fields. From pump.fun's own public IDL ([pump-public-docs, idl/pump.json](https://github.com/pump-fun/pump-public-docs)), the `BondingCurve` account continues after `complete` (byte 48) with:

| bytes | field |
|---|---|
| 49..80 | creator |
| 81 | is_mayhem_mode |
| 82 | is_cashback_coin |
| 83..114 | quote_mint (default = SOL) |
| 115..122 | creator_fee_bps |
| 123 | can_edit_creator_fee |
| 124 | is_holder_reward |

(141-byte accounts are zero-padded after that.)

On a mayhem-mode coin I checked (mint `Cn1K5atSz9Kj1juh1R4rsvstaErfGqVVmek6NC9Fpump`, 2B supply), the Mayhem program `MAyhSmzXzV1pTf7LsNkrNwkWKTo4ougAJ1PPg47MD4e` held 54.95% of supply in its Token-2022 vault, the curve held the other 45.05%, and no outside wallet held anything. A top-holder check that only excludes the curve still flags a 55% "whale". It's a protocol vault, so exclude it too.

Two side effects on mayhem coins:
- "Percent sold" computed from the virtual reserves is misleading (that coin showed "12.49% sold" with nobody holding any). I report it as unknown instead.
- `real_sol_reserves` can be ~0, which is accurate: there's no real SOL backing it yet.

## 3. Don't assume the curve is SOL-paired

`quote_mint` can be something other than SOL (for example USDC). If you print "X SOL in curve" without reading it, you'll mislabel those coins.

## What my check does now

My paid Solana token check (`GET /v1/token-check?mint=...`, $0.005 USDC via x402 on Solana or Base) leaves the curve and the mayhem vault out of concentration, reports `bondingCurvePct`, `mayhemVaultPct`, `quoteAsset`, and flags `thin_bonding_curve`, `pumpfun_mayhem_mode`, `pumpfun_custom_quote`, and `pumpfun_graduated`. It reads on-chain data only. It does **not** give DEX liquidity or price, so treat it as one input, not a buy signal.
